Thank you for making the second BookFestPA a huge success. Please make plans to join us for the third BookFestPA at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts on Saturday, July 14, 2012.

The BookFest tent, next to Schlow Centre Region Library, in the heart of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts’ Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition, provided space for over twenty local authors. Authors who spoke at other BookFest locations also met fans and signed books at the BookFest tent.

The following authors appeared at BookFestPA in 2011:

Tamar Myers photo by Penny YoungTamar Myers

Tamar Myerswas born and reared in the Belgian Congo, the child of missionaries. She moved back to the United States with her family in 1964, escaping from the civil wars that were raging in the newly independent nation.

Tamar was sixteen when her family settled in America, and she immediately underwent severe culture shock.  She didn't know how to dial a telephone, cross a street at a stoplight, or use a vending machine.  She lucked out, however, by meeting her husband, Jeffrey, on her first day in an American high school.

Tamar is the author of two ongoing mystery series.  One is set in Pennsylvania and features Magdalena Yoder, an Amish-Mennonite sleuth who runs a bed and breakfast in the mythical town of Hernia.  The other is set in the Carolinas and follows the adventures of Abigail Timberlake, the proud owner of an antique store, the Den of Antiquity.

Tamar and her husband Jeffrey live in Charlotte, NC with a dog and two cats. A Master Gardener, she enjoys bonsai, travel, painting and, of course, reading. Photo by Penny Young

Featured Author for An Afternoon of Mystery!

Nancy MartinNancy Martin

Creator of the bestselling Blackbird Sisters Mystery Series, Nancy Martin made a career out of romance, but now she has turned to murder. Author of 48 popular fiction novels in mystery, suspense, historical and romance genres, in 2002 Nancy created the Blackbird Sisters. The three Blackbird sisters are impoverished Main Line heiresses who adventure in couture and crime--as if “Agatha Christie had wandered onto the set of Sex and the City.”

Winner of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement award for mystery writing from Romantic Times magazine, Nancy Martin announces the release of the first book in her new mystery series, Our Lady of Immaculate Deception. Set in Pittsburgh, the series features the misadventures of Roxy Abruzzo, a tough girl from the Rust Belt “with a heart of black and gold.”

Nancy lives in Pittsburgh, serves on the board of Sisters in Crime and is a founding member of Pennwriters. She blogs at the popular and trend-setting The Lipstick Chronicles.

Cyn Balog lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with her husband and daughters.

Her first novel, Fairy Tale, is a finalist for the Romance Writers of America's RITA award.

He is a librarian and lives in a cornfield in Allentown, Pennsylvania, with his family.

Lindsay ElandLindsay Eland

Lindsay Eland knew she wanted to be a writer ever since she was in 5th grade and won an honorable mention in the Schlow Library writing contest. Now, in between baking obscene amounts of chocolate chip cookies and reading anything she can get her hands on, Lindsay writes novels for middle grade and young adult readers.

She is happily-ever-after married to a man with a smile so wide it makes his eyes water and take on the shape of half-moons. Together they have four kids who make every day an adventure in love, laughter, mystery and wonder. She is the author of Scones and Sensibility.

Lindsay Barrett George is the author and illustrator of seventeen books for children, including Maggie’s Ball and Inside Mouse, Outside Mouse. State College resident Paul Yeager is a writer and meteorologist and the man behind the web site cloudyandcool.com. His most recent book, published by Perigee Books, is Weather Whys: Facts, Myths, and Oddities. The book takes readers on a journey through the curious world of weather, revealing myths and misconceptions, sharing weird phenomena, and explaining how weather has affected history.

Yeager’s first book, Literally, the Best Language Book Ever: Annoying Words and Abused Phrases You Should Never Use Again, is an opinionated guide to better communication.

Daryl Gregory has had a few jobs. He’s been a high school English teacher, a telecom trainer (it's hard to explain), and a technical writer. His second novel, The Devil's Alphabet, was named by Publisher's Weekly as one of the best books of 2009, and was nominated for the Philip K. Dick Award. Gregory's third novel, Raising Stony Mayhall, will be published in June, 2011.

Gregory has written well-received short stories and comics, too. He lives in State College with his wife and kids.
